Neighbours helping neighbours in the heart of Methil
With a warm meal, a game of bingo and a friendly face, the Rotary Club of Buckhaven and Methil is creating a space where no one in the community feels left behind.
Every Thursday evening at the Memorial Park Neighbourhood Centre, the sound of laughter, conversation and bingo calls fills the room. But the Rotary Club of Buckhaven and Methil’s “Bingo and a Blether” cafés are about much more than entertainment – they are a lifeline for people across Levenmouth facing food poverty, isolation and rising living costs.
Supported by H100 Fife since 2024 through sponsorship of community events such as the local Christmas Lights Switch On, the partnership is now helping deliver something even more impactful. Throughout 2026, H100 Fife will sponsor the weekly cafés, helping provide around 900 free meals alongside activities and social support for local people of all ages.
From older residents seeking companionship to young families needing a warm, welcoming place to gather, the cafés bring generations together under one roof. Volunteers serve hot food, organise games and create a safe environment where people can talk openly, connect with neighbours and feel part of their community again.
At the centre of it all is a simple idea: locals working for locals. The Rotary Club’s volunteers know the challenges facing the area because they live there too. Their work reflects the same values at the heart of H100 Fife – tackling poverty, strengthening community wellbeing and ensuring the benefits of investment are felt locally.
By supporting initiatives like “Bingo and a Blether”, H100 Fife is helping create more than a low-carbon future. It is helping build a stronger, more connected Levenmouth today.
